No. The real reason Shaq left is because Miami was willing to pay him the money he wanted and LA wasn't. Shaq wanted a 5 year deal worth an average of 30 mil. a year. Buss (the Laker owner) knew that 1. Shaq was good for only 2 more years and 2. Keeping Kobe and giving Shaq the extension he wanted would have crippled their ability to keep and build a team around those stars. Letting Kobe go was not an option, but, given the fact that Shaq was on the down side of his career, letting Shaq go was the lesser of two evils.

Now we can see that Buss made the right decision. Miami is in last place because Shaq is half the player he used to be, but makes the same money he used to. Money that could be spent improving the team is tied to a washed up, injury prone center, so not only are they bad, but they are going to stay bad for a while. Yes, Kobe's ego got in the way of winning more championships. He doesn't deserve to win any ever again seeing as Shaq was the reason Kobe even has 3 rings!!!
There's no doubt in my mind that if Shaq woulda stayed in LA for a few more seasons after 2004, the Lakers would've had at least 1 more championship. Shaq was great in '04 and '05 as was Kobe. The duo was unstoppable, and if Kobe would've been a better person, he would've been one ring richer.
of course, Kobe is very hard to get along with if Kobe would have been nice to him they would have been in the finals last year and would be competing with boston for the best record in the lg.
