The way I see it, the ship is sinking in LA. No trades seem to be working, and the whole team is going to hate Kobe next year and nobody's going to want to play with him even tho they have to. With an even stronger West, you have San Antonio/Dallas/Phoenix/ Utah/Houston/Denver likely to take the top 6 spots. Portland/Seattle/Golden State could have more legitimate shots at fighting for the last 2 spots. Will the Lakers miss the playoffs?

I'm a big time Laker fan (since early 60's). I actually hope they do miss the playoffs next season. I don't like the way Kobe is maneuvering. The Lakers have not been good enough to be considered a serious contender, nor bad enough to get a high draft choice. So my crew has been caught in the worst position recently: mediocrity.

Let's stay w/ the young guys, trade Kobe, miss the playoffs, sign a big-time free agent after next season, and start getting busy in 2008 - 2009.

Yes! The Blazers made a good trade to get rid of Randolph, and hs a bunch of talented young players on their team. The Sonics made a blockbuster deal at draft night (Ray Allen trade), and now have a pretty good team.

Im thinking there in. I've heard Kupchek has been working hard on getting Jermaine O'Neal for Odom and Bynum. With a starting lineup of Brown, O'Neal, Walton, Bryant, and Farmar look for them to sneak in again at a #7 seed. At best they can snatch a 5 seed. Portland will be relying on a frontcourt with little offensive swagger and a Kobeesque ballhog in Stevey Franchise. The Sonics are starting from scratch and as much as I love Durant, he and Jeff Green will not carry the team into the playoffs

No matter how bad Kobe wants out he will not miss the play offs, he has way too much pride to tank games. seattle and portland will be in the lottery again next year (2 much youth, no vets to guide them). Kobe and co, will sneak in and have a 1st round bumping unless a major trade takes place, the final spot is between the hornets, GS (whos a weaker team with out J. Richardson) and the Clippers.

I think the Lakers are back on track with that third consecutive win last night. Lamar probably had his best game since coming back from the injury, with almost a triple double. Kobe was doing his thing as usual, he had the Jazz biting on every little fake and drawing fouls here and there. Smush had a hot hand all night, but Maurice could've done better. But I still think they need work on their interior defense, they allowed a lot of dunks and layups for the Jazz. Bynum needs some more experience, and they need to fortify their interior defense

It is hard to argue with Chicago's success with 6 titles in 8 years.

Those Lakers won three titles in three years only when Duncan's knee was giving him problems (Duncan did not play in 2000 because of major knee surgery, and his knee gave out on him in both the 2001 and 2002 playoffs where the young mid 20 something Duncan looked like the old Patrick Ewing in his last year with the Knicks where Ewing could barely run up and down the court. The same thing happened with Duncan and his knee problem in the 2001 and 2002 playoffs).

When Duncan's knee was healthy, he led the Spurs to defeat the Shaq-Kobe-Horry Lakers in a 4-0 sweep over the Lakers in 1999 and a 2003 playoff victory over those same Lakers, so those Lakers were stoppable when Duncan had a healthy knee.

I think that the Duncan led Spurs and 4 titles since 1999 is pretty remarkable.

There was nothing wrong with Duncan in 01 or 02. He carried those teams. The Spurs may have been knocked out of the playoffs but it wasn't because of Tim Duncan.
I believe that in time the cavs will do it. Lebron is probably the best all around player in the league, hughes is a mighty dfender, varejoa is the guy that can get rebound and block shot over anyone regardless of how big they are. What they need is another potent scorer with a mcgrady, kobe-like skills that is not a ball hog, and I believe 2 or 3 years down the line theyll get it.

They are a good team, right now along with the Spurs, they are playing the best basketball in the NBA. There are still some 20 games left though and with the race so close right now, they could drop to a 5 seed in a few games. I do think they or the Spurs will finish #1 in the West though. It is nice to see that The Lakers brass finally got Gasol to help out Kobe. Still, the Werst is going to be an extremely tough battle this year. Kobe is still the best player in the NBA.

Yes , there starting unit is very strong. Kobe and Fisher, one of the better guard combinations. Also one of the better frontlines, in Bynum,Gasol, and Odom. Walton , farmer, and Turiaf off the bench. Could use a shooter off the bench!
The Lakers have always been a great team! Their tradition is about winning championships - they've the 2nd most championships in NBA history and are the winningest team in NBA history. They are a franchise with a history of winning, some great loyal fans, and it looks like the Lakers are back!!!

i can't wait to hang a couple of more banners up in the Staples Center and hopefully we'll catch the Celtics for the most NBA championships by the end of the decade.

They have great chemistry and are playing hard which had been a little lacking the last couple of years. I really like the cast of players they have and with Ariza and Bynum coming back they can be a force to reckon with in the playoffs!

I do think they are a good team. I think at the moment they are playing some of the best basketball in the league. I think the Gasol trade has worked out really well, given them a good inside presence, given KB24 something to work with. I think when Bynum comes back, this trade will look even better than it does right now. They are playing a team oriented game which suits them a lot better. The pick and roll with Kobe and Gasol, is one of the most unstoppable moves in basketball right now. I do question their depth though. They are a really solid team through the first 7 players, but a little suspect after that. They should go deep in to the playoffs though....

Of course they have a good team they have good players at every position especially sense they got Gasol. They have a deep bench once they all get healthy and they're pretty good. Last but no least the Lakers have the best player on the planet on their team.
They are a good team now and I love it. The one season a few years back when they missed the playoffs, I lost all interest in the NBA postseason because I had no one to root against. Now they are back to the playoffs and they keep finding exciting new ways to lose a first round series. They are just good enough to make the playoffs, where they keep finding creative ways to falter. I love it.

Lakers have always sucked but just even more so this season. I Love watching the Lakers play the Suns. Humiliation... I Loved watching Larry Brown's Pistons %26amp; Lakers in 2004. That last game was awesome.

I'm a Lakers fan and I say they just didn't have enough help. The only factors were Kobe, Lamar, and Walton. They don't have good role players that the problem. As for last year they had your Suns beat but I give em their props though. If you look at all the Championship teams they had complementary players. Jordan had Pippen, Ron Harper who averaged 20 with Cleveland, Kukoc, B.J. Armstrong, Kerr, Paxon, Winnington, and later Rodman.

if you're a laker or kobe fan, your input is next to invalid, seeing as you're biased...but no..obviously the Suns are a WAAAYYYY better TEAM than the Lakers, who used to have an actual lineup, what with Derek Fisher, Robert Horry, Shaq, all who have since leaving LA have shown up in their respective conference finals (excluding shaq, this year). Like i said, Fisher led the Jazz (def. not a fan of Utah), and Horry's made some key plays for the Spurs the last three seasons (not counting the body check on Nash). All in all, the lakers just couldn't compete with Phoenix, last year, this year or any forseeable time in the near future, btw, Kobe is a one-dimensional player, who didn't deserve the defensive team selection

It helps keep his teammaes with desire, yesterday when they were playing the Heat, you could tell they were playing lightly, then he gets fired up and starts making plays, talking to the teammates to focus more. He plays with passion, besides itsnot like he does it out of nowhere, he usually only complains when he think he got fouled, and he did get fouled in Seattle.
most teams do that take last year when the pistons were the best. rasheed wallce led the league with technical fouls. i mean it is a stupid thing to do when ur winning. so probably they arnt used to getting fouls called on them so they get angry for no reason and act stupid. the winning is just getting the best of them
